10 reasons for VPS

 1. Initial Server Setup

NTT Europe Online configures all aspects of the hardware and sets up all core software needed to run several services on the Managed VPS, such as the OS, the file system, the software update system, Web server, FTP, POP, IMAP, SSH, SMTP, FreeBSD Ports Collection or RPM utility (for FreeBSD and Linux, respectively) and more. A Managed VPS ?just works? right out of the box. No special configuration of core services is needed.

2. Managed OS optimization, updates and patches 

NTT Europe Online manages all aspects of ?core? services, such as the operating system, file system and services like POP, IMAP, SMTP, SSH, FTP, etc. NTT Europe Online continually updates this software and manages all aspects of these services to optimize performance on the server. The customer will never have to worry about any of these services.

3. Security patch updates

NTT Europe Online continually monitors and updates Managed VPS server software whenever security or other necessary updates are discovered or released. Important or critical security updates are given prompt attention and usually patched to all servers within 24 hours of being discovered.

4. Vinstall application library 

NTT Europe Online maintains a proprietary vinstall library that offers Managed VPS customers some of the most popular software packages pre-configured for the VPS environment. Each application is easily installed with only a couple of configuration options needed. Some software examples include: MySQL, PHP, ClamAV, SpamAssassin, Java, Python, WordPress, and Zope.

5. 24/7 Monitoring (network, SLA) 

NTT Europe Online actively and continually monitors many aspects of Managed VPS, including disk space used, CPU, swap, disk IO, bandwidth and more. NTT Europe Online also monitors all aspects related to the datacenters, such as network traffic, hardware failure, etc. Engineers are notified within minutes whenever a problem is discovered and immediately repair any problems with hardware or other issues caused by NTT Europe Online at no charge to the customer. For example, if a hard drive fails, NTT Europe Online would replace the drive and repair any corruption to the file system at no charge. Problems are usually resolved within minutes and almost always within one hour or less.

6. Triple redundant data backup

NTT Europe Online has three layers of data backup for Managed VPS. The main customer data hard drive is mirrored to a second disk in a RAID array. The data is also backed up nightly to a third drive located in the same server, available as a read-only directory for customers and immediately accessible. Also, approximately every week a backup is made of the entire customer account to tape. Tape restores are available on request.

7. Managed Caching Nameserver 

NTT Europe Online manages a local unique caching nameserver for each Managed VPS. DNS resolution is something the customer will never need to worry about.

8. Virtual Remote Reboot 

NTT Europe Online has created a proprietary virtual reboot for the Managed VPS. This allows customers to simulate a reboot of their server. This procedure will basically stop all existing processes and then start up services and processes in the same manner that would be followed if the physical server experienced a reboot.

9. Administrative tools 

NTT Europe Online maintains tools to assist system administrators with common tasks, such as configuring email or user accounts, adding subhosts or monitoring disk usage. Some examples include the proprietary CPX Control Panel, System Quota Checker and a Sendmail certificate utility.  

10. Managed Sendmail RBLs

NTT Europe Online has created the sendmail-RBLs vinstall. This allows to easily subscribing to any of several RBLs (Real-time Blackhole Lists). Subscription to these RBLs greatly reduces spam, as it enables Sendmail on Managed VPS to immediately reject connections from known spammers and exploited systems sending out spam. Subscription to the ?top? or ?best? RBLs (such as the Spamhaus XBL-SBL list) alone can reduce spam to a Managed VPS by as much as 80% or more!
